  • Uninsured drivers will be caught - 03/10/2005

Next year Police will be able to track down and catch uninsured drivers

The Road Safety Bill is having certain amendments added to it later this week and these include an amendment which will allow the police to use the Insurance industry's computer database to see if a car is insured. Currently police can only catch offenders if they are actually driving a vehicle.

Drivers without car insurance will face a fine of £100 followed by court action if they fail to make that payment.

Police will therefore be able to visit drivers in their homes and it is thought that this will help reduce the number of offending cars being driven uninsured from the current figures estimated by the AA of 6 million unrecorded cars being driven in the UK.
