Your occupation can dramatically affect the cost of your car insurance premiums based on a series of risk ratings. It is a common fact that premiums for car insurance cover can increase depending on what occupation you follow. New research however has highlighted the significant effect that a driver's occupation has on the motor insurance premiums that they pay. British insurers use a risk ratings system in calculating the loadings relating to particular jobs. Under this system a teacher or bank manager both deemed to be fairly "safe" occupations would pay approx. half the premium demanded of an entertainer or professional fottballer. Some companies it was found in the study charge as much as three times as much in premiums as that of say an office worker. So when it comes to entering your occupation details when applying for an insurance quote make sure you are as precise as you can be. When asked about these variations in cover a spokesperson from the Assocaition of British Insurers said that premium levels were set according to historial claims data. If costs were higher for a particular occupational group then it was because those people had made more claims or the claims payouts were higher in the past.
