There are a number of different types of route planner available to today's motorist. Clearly there is the good old fashioned road atlas, but with the speed that road systems tend to change in our increasing busy transport systems, these may not be as reliable as they once were, so more and more travellers are turning to technology to help them out.
The AA and the RAC operate free, computer generated route planners over the internet. The RAC site offers a pan-European route planning tool holding the latest UK traffic information. One simply accesses the site and provides details of departure location and destination, together with any specified locations one wishes to visit (or avoid) en route and the route is provided ready to be printed off. The RAC also offers a personalised traffic information subscription service which provides automatic telephone notification of travel problems on your route. The AA offers a similar service and will also provide up to the minute travel information via your mobile.
